Ambuja Cements Limited

Out here in Saraswati Colony in Kota, things move at their own pace, especially when the Rajasthan sun starts hitting hard in the middle of the day. Our place at Ambuja Cements Limited on Plot No 48B is pretty much what you’d expect for a spot handling cement. It’s practical and filled with the sound of trucks coming in from the main road. We spend our mornings checking the inventory and making sure the stacks are high and straight. It’s dusty work, and there is no point pretending otherwise. You go home with grey on your boots every single day. Kherli is a busy enough area, so there’s always something happening outside our gate. We have a small staff here, just a handful of us who know where everything is kept. If someone needs a few bags or a whole truckload, we just handle the paperwork and get it moving. We don't really do the big corporate meetings here; it's more about shouting over the engine noise to get the driver’s attention. The building itself is old but it stays relatively cool inside if we keep the fans going. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside on the plastic chairs until it comes back. It’s honest work, and we’ve been at this spot for a good while now, so we know the neighbors and the local contractors pretty well by name. It is just a regular job that keeps the local buildings going up.
