Masthani Tea is situated near Guru Ji Chowk in Patheda, which is part of the Baran area. The chowk is a central point for everyone moving through this part of town. Our shop is right there where the roads meet, so we see everyone from farmers to travelers. It is a very simple setup, mostly just a counter and some basic equipment for making tea. We use a lot of milk and tea leaves every day because the demand never really stops. The dust from the road comes in sometimes, so we are constantly wiping down the tables. It is a local place where people gather to talk about the weather or the crops. We don't have any fancy machines; we do everything the old-fashioned way on the stove. The heat from the burners keeps the place warm in the winter, but in the summer, we try to stay near the door where there is a bit of a breeze. Patheda is a place where everyone knows everyone else. You can hear the sounds of the market and the vehicles from the chowk all day long. We start our work before the sun is fully up to catch the early crowd. By the time evening rolls around, we are usually quite tired, but it is a good kind of tired. There is no big secret to what we do, we just make tea the way people like it here in this corner of Baran.
