M S Ramanlal Manibhai & Co has been around the Ramganj Mandi Market Number 2 for quite a long time. Our shop is one of those old-fashioned places where the smell of grain and jute bags is always in the air. We don't have any flashy signs or bright lights, just the same wooden doors we've had for years. Most of the work involves keeping track of inventory and talking to the traders who come through the market. We have big ledgers where we write everything down by hand, though we do have a small calculator that gets a lot of use. The market is always a bit of a mess with tractors and trolleys moving around, and our shop is right in the thick of it. We spend the morning checking the quality of the goods coming in and making sure everything is stored properly so the rats don't get to it. It’s a lot of talking and negotiating over prices, which can get a bit loud sometimes. There’s a small stove in the corner where we make tea for whoever drops by to chat. The walls are a bit stained from years of dust and smoke, but it feels comfortable to us. We’ve seen the market change a lot over the years, but our way of doing things stays pretty much the same. It’s about being here every day and knowing the people we do business with.
