Working at the Govt. Hospital Surgery Dept. means your days are mostly spent inside the KR-204/1 building on the MBS Hospital Campus. It is a big campus, and sometimes people get a bit lost trying to find us, but we are right there in the middle of things. The hallways have that specific smell of floor cleaner and old paint that you only find in places like this. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the walls look or if the chairs in the waiting area are perfectly matched. Our focus is just on the schedule for the day. Surgery days are long. You lose track of time when you’re back in the theater area. It can be quiet one minute and then everyone is rushing the next. The staff here has worked together for years, so we don't need to say much to understand what needs doing. We eat our lunches quickly in the breakroom when there’s a gap in the list. The MBS Hospital Campus is always humming with activity, especially around our section. People come from all over the area because this is where the serious work happens. We see a lot of families waiting out in the halls, looking anxious, and we just try to keep things moving as smoothly as possible. It is a heavy responsibility, but it is just what we do here at KR-204/1. No one here is looking for praise; we just want to finish the list and go home.
