Oceanic Fisheries (India) Ltd. is down in Sakthikulangara P.O. It’s been here a while now. We deal with fish and the sea, mostly what comes in from the local boats. It is a busy place, especially in the mornings when the catch arrives. The office isn't anything fancy, just a spot to get the paperwork done and talk to the guys on the docks. We spend a lot of time checking the ice and making sure things are sorted right before they head out. It gets loud and smells like the ocean, which I guess is expected. Some days are longer than others, depending on the weather and if the nets are full. We have a small crew that knows their way around the harbor. It’s hard work, getting everything moved quickly so nothing spoils. People around here know us as the place near the post office. We don't spend much time on the computer, mostly we are out back or talking on the phone with suppliers. Sometimes the trucks are late, and we just have to sit and wait it out with a cup of tea. It’s just how it goes in the fishing business. We try to keep things simple and honest. There’s always a lot to do, from cleaning the bins to filing the daily reports. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do here in Sakthikulangara. We've seen a lot of changes in the industry over the years, but the daily routine stays pretty much the same.
