We’ve been here at 14B Canning Street for a long time. It’s a busy part of the city, and if you know this area, you know how the traffic gets during the day. The office isn't anything fancy, just a place where we get the work done. Most of our day is spent dealing with tea shipments and making sure the paperwork for the gardens is in order. We have these old wooden desks that have been around since my father’s time. Sometimes the ceiling fan makes a clicking sound that drives us crazy, but we just get used to it. People come in and out all day, mostly brokers or delivery guys bringing samples in small tin cans. You can smell the dry leaves as soon as you open the door. It’s not a quiet job. There is always someone shouting outside or a horn honking down on the street. We try to keep things organized, but when the busy season hits, there are tea chests and files everywhere. We just focus on the daily tasks, checking the batches and making sure the orders go out to the right places. It's regular work, nothing too exciting, but it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. We usually have a cup of tea ourselves around four o'clock, just to take a break from the phones ringing. That’s pretty much how things go here at Anandbari.
