Being in Suite-17 of Chowringhee Mansions is like stepping back in time a little bit. The building at 30 Jawaharlal Nehru Road is very old, with high ceilings and those big windows that let in a lot of light but also a lot of noise from the street below. We’ve got a lot of history in these rooms. The walls are lined with old photos and ledgers from years ago. We don't have fancy air conditioning in every corner, so the ceiling fans are always spinning away during the hot months. Most of our day is spent talking to people from the estates and making sure the quality is what it should be. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there; we just want to do right by the tea we handle. It’s a lot of checking and re-checking. Sometimes the lift in the building breaks down and we have to walk up, which isn't fun, but it’s just part of being in an old place like this. We don't use a lot of fancy tech, just the basics to keep the orders moving and the records straight. People come in, have a seat, and we talk about the season’s crop over a cup of something hot. It’s a simple way of doing things that has worked for us for a long time. We plan to stay right here for as long as they let us.
