Subhra Spirits Private Limited operates out of 23/1A Ganesh Ghosh Lane here in Kolkata. Being in a lane like this means you get to know your neighbors really well. It is a crowded spot, but there is a certain rhythm to it that we’ve grown used to over the years. We deal with spirits, so there’s a lot of regulation and paperwork that keeps us occupied for most of the morning. It’s not all exciting work, but it’s what we do. The office is functional. We have some sturdy desks and plenty of filing cabinets. You won't find any modern art or fancy carpets here. We prefer it that way because it feels more real. Sometimes the monsoon rains make the lane a bit difficult to navigate, but we still manage to get things done. We have a small crew and everyone knows their job. We don’t really have a big boss who sits in a separate room; we all just sit together and talk through what needs to happen. It's a local business through and through. We started with just a couple of us and a phone, and now we are a bit more established, but the vibe hasn't changed much. We just focus on the task at hand and try to stay organized in the middle of all the Kolkata chaos. It gets messy sometimes but we handle it.
