If you walk down Southern Avenue in Kolkata, you’ll find this Spencer'S Retail Ltd at number 24. It’s a nice part of town, with a lot of old trees and people taking walks in the morning. We’ve been part of this street for quite a while now. The building has a bit of character to it, though it’s mostly just a practical space for us. We start our day early, usually before the traffic really picks up. There’s a certain rhythm to the work—unloading the trucks, checking the invoices, and then getting everything onto the shelves before the first customers show up. We get a lot of older residents from the neighborhood who have been living here for decades. They usually have a specific way they like things done, and we do our best to accommodate that. It’s a fairly relaxed atmosphere compared to some of the busier parts of the city. We spend time chatting with the regulars about the weather or how the local market is doing. Sometimes we have issues with the plumbing or the lights, but we just call someone to come and fix it. We don’t try to be anything we’re not. We’re just a local retail spot trying to provide the basics to the people who live around here. It’s a simple life and a simple business, and we’re happy to be part of the Southern Avenue community.
