Sovan Tea Packers

Our tea packing business is located in Santoshpur, right along the Budge Budge Trunk Road. It’s a busy route with a lot of heavy vehicles passing by all the time, which can make things pretty dusty. We spend our days surrounded by the smell of dried tea leaves, which is actually one of the best parts of the job. We get the big sacks in and spend hours sorting and packing them into smaller bags. It’s a simple process, but it takes a lot of hands to do it right. The building isn't anything fancy, just a warehouse and a small office space where we handle the orders. When the monsoon hits, the road outside gets pretty muddy and things slow down a bit, but we try to keep the packing lines moving regardless. We aren't some big brand you see on television; we’re just a local outfit trying to put out a good product. Most of the people who work here are from the nearby villages and they’ve been with us since we opened up. We sit together during lunch and talk about the news or the weather. It feels like a family business even if we aren't all related. We just focus on getting the tea weighed out correctly and making sure the seals are tight. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy from morning until evening here in Santoshpur.
