Sanjoy Stores

Our shop is right by the Airport Gate, number 21/2 to be exact. It’s a busy spot because the ration office is very close. You can hear the planes taking off all day long, which you eventually stop noticing after a few weeks. Sanjoy Stores has been a part of this neighborhood for a while now. We keep basic things like batteries, snacks, and toiletries. It’s not a supermarket, just a small place where you can get what you need quickly. Sometimes the queue at the ration office gets long, and people come over here to buy a bottle of water or some biscuits while they wait. My father started this place, and I’ve been helping out since I was a teenager. The shelves are wooden and a bit old now, but they hold up. We don’t have fancy air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that hum all day. Kolkata gets very humid, so those fans are a lifesaver. We know most of the people who live in the lanes behind the main road. They stop by for a quick chat and to pick up their daily milk or bread. It’s a simple operation. We just try to keep the stock fresh and the shop open on time. There’s no big secret to it, just showing up and serving the folks who live and work around the airport area. It's just a regular local shop where we know your name.
