Pragati Computer

If you go down to Mangoe Lane near the Calcutta GPO, you’ll find our office. We are on the second floor in Room 24 of building number 9. It’s an older building, one of those places with a lot of character and maybe a few too many stairs to climb every day. Pragati Computer isn't one of those big, bright shops you see in the new malls. It’s more of a workspace where we deal with all sorts of computer parts and repair jobs. The room is a bit cramped because we have stacks of components and monitors that have seen better days tucked into every corner. We spend most of our time staring at screens or taking apart hardware that’s decided to stop working. It gets a bit dusty with all the electronics, but that’s just how it is. People come in when their systems crash or if they’re looking for a specific part that’s hard to find elsewhere. We don't have a front desk or a receptionist; you basically just walk in and talk to whoever isn't busy with a screwdriver or a keyboard. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but we know where everything is kept. The ceiling fan hums along all day, and there’s usually a pot of tea being shared around the desks. We’ve been here for years and have seen the technology change from those heavy old boxes to the slim laptops people use now. It’s just a small business doing its thing.
