Maya Tea Centre

We’ve been running Maya Tea Centre for a good while now here in Mahajati Nagar. If you know the Birati area, you probably know where M B Road is. We are tucked right near the Birati More Junction. It gets pretty loud and busy around here with all the traffic coming through the junction, but that’s just how it is in Kolkata. My family helps out with the tea and snacks. We don’t have any fancy chairs or air conditioning, just a simple spot for people to grab a hot cup before they catch a bus or head home. Sometimes the stove acts up or the milk delivery is a bit late, but we manage. You’ll find us here early in the morning when the fog is still hanging over the road. Most of our regulars live right here in the Mahajati Nagar lanes. They come by to talk about the weather or whatever is happening in the news. It’s not a big business by any means. We just keep the jars filled with biscuits and make sure the tea is strong. If you’re passing the junction and need a break from the noise, you can spot us easily. We don’t do anything special, just the same routine every day. The rain sometimes leaks through the front shade a bit when it’s heavy, but we just put a bucket down and keep going. It’s a local life here in Birati.
