Mahajati Tea House

Working out of P-36, India Exchange Place, on the 3rd floor puts us right near the Tea Board, which is pretty convenient for what we do here at Mahajati Tea House. This building has seen better days, and the stairs are a bit steep, but it’s got character. We spend most of our time in this office surrounded by samples and small white tasting cups. Sit Road is always busy downstairs with people rushing back and forth, but up here on the third floor, it’s a bit more settled. You can hear the hum of the ceiling fans and the sound of people talking in the hallways. We don’t have any slick decorations or modern furniture. Our desks are old wooden ones that have been here since we started. Most of the day is spent looking at tea leaves under the window light to see the color and the cut. It’s quiet work, mostly, unless the phone is ringing off the hook. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling filled with different batches. Sometimes the elevator in the building doesn't work right, so we end up carrying things up and down the stairs ourselves. It keeps us moving, I guess. We aren't trying to impress anyone with a shiny office; we just need enough space to do our job and keep the tea organized. It’s a bit cluttered, but we know where everything is.
