M. L. Dalmiya & Company Ltd.

Our office for M. L. Dalmiya & Company Ltd. is at 32, Shakespeare Sarani. This street is always crowded with cars and people, but once you step inside, it’s a bit quieter. We’ve been here a long time. The building is one of those older ones with high ceilings and windows that sometimes stick when you try to open them. We have about fifteen people working here on a regular day. There are blueprints spread out on almost every flat surface. We handle construction work and project management, which basically means we spend a lot of time looking at maps and arguing about the price of steel. It’s not a glamorous life. We wear boots and jeans most of the time because we are usually headed to a dusty job site. We don't have a fancy reception area with flowers. Usually, there’s just a stack of newspapers and some empty tea cups on the table. We’ve built a lot of things around the city over the years, but we don't really go around bragging about it. We just do the work and move on to the next task. Sometimes the computers act up and we have to wait for the IT guy, who is also my nephew. We just keep our heads down and try to finish our projects on time. It’s a lot of work but we are used to it.
