Our office is at 37A Bentinck Street in Kolkata. If you’ve ever walked down Bentinck Street, you know how packed it gets with people, shops, and yellow taxis honking all day long. M. L. Chopra Shipping has been in this building for years. It’s one of those old Kolkata structures with high ceilings and thick walls that keep it a bit cooler than the street outside. We handle shipping and logistics, which means we spend a lot of time on the phone or buried in stacks of documents. It’s a lot of coordination with ports and customs, and things can get pretty stressful when a shipment is delayed. We’ve got a small team here, and most of us have been together for a long time. We drink a lot of tea from the stall downstairs while we wait for news on vessels. The office furniture is old-fashioned, and the files are organized in a way that only we really understand. It’s a bit chaotic, but we know exactly where everything is. We don’t go for any of that modern corporate look. It’s a working office in a busy part of the city. Sometimes the elevators in the building don't work, so we have to take the stairs, which isn't fun in the humidity. But we like being in the heart of the city. It’s where all the action is.
