Halka

Halka is situated at 53/2/4B, Hazra Road. This part of Kolkata is always moving. There is never a quiet moment on Hazra Road. We have been in this specific spot for some time. The building itself is just a standard brick structure like many others in the 700019 area. We don’t have a big glass front or anything flashy. It is just a door and a small sign. Inside, we have set things up to be functional. We have our desks and our chairs and not much else. We don’t see the need for a lot of decoration. It just gets in the way of the work. We usually start our day pretty early before the heat gets too bad. We drink a lot of tea from the shop down the street. It is a good way to stay awake during the slow parts of the afternoon. We don’t really do any advertising. Most people find us because they live nearby or they were walking to the market and saw our name. We like being part of the local scene here. It feels honest. The walls have a few scuffs here and there and the floor is a bit worn down from people walking on it, but that is fine. It shows that the place is being used. We are just a group of people trying to make a living like everyone else on this street.
