About Dhrobo Tea Center – Food & Beverages in Kolkata
If you go down Buddha Ostagar Lane to number 22A, you will find where we keep the tea. It’s one of those narrow lanes where everyone knows everyone else’s business. The Dhrobo Tea Center has been part of this little street for a while now. The building is old, and the walls are thick, which helps keep the tea a bit fresher. We don’t have much in the way of space, so we have to be very careful about how we stack the bags. Sometimes it feels like a giant puzzle, trying to reach a specific blend that’s buried at the bottom of the pile. We spend a lot of our time just moving things from one side of the room to the other. Customers come in through the front door and they usually have to wait a minute while we find what they want. It’s a very local kind of place. We don't use any fancy computers for everything; a lot of it is still written down in notebooks. The lighting inside isn't the best, but we know our way around every corner of the shop. Buddha Ostagar Lane isn't the busiest place in the city, but it has its own rhythm. We fit into that rhythm by opening up at the same time every day and closing when the street lights come on. It’s simple work, but it’s what we do.
