Creation

We are over in Noonmati, specifically in the Classic Enclave building at No. 5/10 Netaji Nagar. It’s a bit of a climb to get everything sorted in the morning when we first open up the place. Guwahati weather is usually quite humid, so we have to keep the fans going all day long. The shop isn't massive, but we use every bit of space we have available to us. There’s a lot of noise from the main road sometimes that drifts in through the entrance. We mostly deal with people from the neighborhood. It’s nice seeing the same faces every week. We started out with just a small table and grew from there over time. Now we have shelves reaching almost to the ceiling. It can be a struggle to find things if we don't put them back in the right spot right away. My brother usually handles the stock while I talk to anyone who walks in the door. We don't do much advertising at all. People just find us by word of mouth. Sometimes the power goes out and we just have to wait it out. It's just a regular part of life here in Assam. We keep a teapot in the corner for when it's quiet. The floor needs a good sweep every few hours because of the dust coming in from the street. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening.
