Bits & Bytes

We have been operating out of 309 in the Optics Manufacturing House for quite a few years now. Being near the Lal Bazar police station on B B Ganguly Street means there is always a lot of activity outside. Bowbazar is a busy area and the noise of the traffic usually fills our shop from morning until we close up at night. Our space is not very large and it is often filled with stacks of equipment and various parts we are working on. There is usually a bit of dust on the shelves and the floor has some scuff marks from moving heavy boxes around. We do not have a fancy reception area or anything like that. People just walk in and we talk to them over the counter. Usually, I am the one you will see first, unless I am in the back fixing something. We handle repairs and look at whatever tech problems people bring us. It is honest work and it keeps us occupied. Sometimes the lift in the building acts up so we have to use the stairs, which is not great when carrying a heavy monitor. We know most of the other shop owners on the street and we often grab tea from the stall downstairs. It is just a regular life here. We do the work as it comes in and try to stay on top of the pile. It is not always perfect but we get it done. It is just us and our tools.
