Biswas Variety Stores

Biswas Variety Stores has been part of Ariadaha for quite some time now. We are located on A C Banerjee Road in Kolkata. It is one of those old-fashioned variety stores where you might find a bit of everything, from notebooks and pens to household plastic items and small gifts. The shop is tucked into a busy street where people are always rushing to the station or the market. I handle most of the work myself, which means a lot of dusting because the Kolkata air is never really clean. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so I have a small stool to reach the things at the top. It is not a huge place, but we try to keep what the local families usually ask for. I have seen kids grow up around here, first coming in for a pencil and later buying things for their own homes. The space is a bit narrow, and sometimes it gets crowded if more than three people are inside at once. I don’t use any computers; everything is noted down in a ledger with a pen. It is a slow way of doing things compared to the big malls, but it works for us. Life on A C Banerjee Road is loud and full of energy, and being here in the middle of it feels right. We just keep the door open and wait for the next person to walk inside.
