B. L. Thard & Co.

B. L. Thard & Co. has been operating out of 5, Clive Row for many years. Clive Row is one of those old, narrow streets that feels like it’s been there forever. The building we are in is quite old, with high ceilings and those big windows that let in a lot of light but also a bit of a draft in the winter. It’s a busy area, full of history and other firms that have been around for generations. Our office is on one of the upper floors. You have to take the stairs or the old lift, which is sometimes a bit temperamental. Inside, it smells like old paper and ink. We have rows of filing cabinets that are probably older than some of the staff. There are no open-plan layouts or modern gadgets here. It’s just desks, chairs, and people working through piles of documents. It’s a quiet place for the most part, except for the sound of traffic from the street below. We like the tradition of being in Clive Row. It connects us to the history of the city. We don’t see a need to move to a modern glass building. This place has character, even if the walls could use a fresh coat of paint. We just go about our business in the same way we always have. It’s about being reliable and being here when people need us at number 5. It is a plain, hardworking office.
