We are over at Plot Y-7, Block EP, in Sector V of the Salt Lake Electronics Complex. If you have been to this part of Kolkata, you know it is full of glass buildings and IT offices. Our spot is a bit more modest than some of the neighbors. We have been here since the area was still being developed. Inside, it’s mostly open space with rows of computers. We do software development and some data work. The air conditioning is usually cranked up pretty high because of all the machines running. We have a small pantry where the fridge makes a weird humming noise, but it keeps our drinks cold. The team is a mix of people who have been here for years and a few newer faces. We don't have a big human resources department or anything like that. If there’s a problem, we just sit down and talk it through. Most of our days are spent staring at screens and drinking tea. The view from the window is just another office building across the street. It isn't the most exciting place, but it is where we do our work. We don't go in for flashy presentations or big talk. We just write the code, test it, and try to make sure everything works like it is supposed to. When the monsoon comes, the streets around the complex flood a bit, but we still make it in to get things done.
