Our office is in the Krishna Building on A.J.C. Bose Road, up on the third floor in Suite 314. It’s a bit of an older building, and the elevator sometimes makes a weird clunking sound, but it gets us there eventually. This area of Kolkata is always packed with people and cars, so there’s a lot of energy right outside the door. Inside Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine (I) Private Limited, it’s mostly just desks, phones, and a lot of ledgers. We deal with a lot of logistics for the spirits and wine, so there is always a conversation happening about shipments or storage space. It’s not a fancy tasting room like you might imagine. It’s a working office where we keep track of where everything is going. The walls are a bit plain, and we’ve got a few calendars hung up to keep track of the dates. We usually order lunch from one of the nearby places on A.J.C. Bose Road because nobody wants to lose their parking spot by leaving. It’s a steady kind of job with a lot of routine. We know the security guards and the other people on the third floor. It’s just a normal workplace where we put in our hours and try to make sure all the numbers add up at the end of the month.
