Maa Lakhirani Memorial School

Maa Lakhirani Memorial School is right at Block Chowk in Bhargama. It’s a rural area in Araria, so things are pretty quiet around here compared to the big cities. The school is a simple structure that we’ve put together to give the local kids a place to study. Most of the families around here are farmers or small shopkeepers. We see the kids walking down the dusty roads every morning to reach the gates. The classrooms are basic, with just enough desks and chairs for everyone. Sometimes we have to squeeze a few more in if a class is full. We don't have a lot of expensive equipment. The focus is mainly on the textbooks and the blackboard. Our teachers live nearby and they understand the challenges the students face at home. We have a small area outside where the kids can run around during their break. It’s mostly just dirt and some grass, but they don’t seem to care. They play with whatever they find. In the monsoon, the ground gets very soft and we have to be careful about the leaks in the roof. We fix things as they break, but it’s a constant job. There’s no big fence or security guards, just a gate that we lock at night. It’s a humble place, really. We just want the children in Bhargama to have a chance to learn their lessons properly without having to travel too far away. It is just our way of helping out.
