Kursela Farmers Producer Company Limited is basically just a bunch of us from the Tola Shahpurdharmi area in the Shahpur Dharmi panchayat. We set up our main point of contact at Nilamber Mandal’s house in the village. Life here revolves around the seasons and what we can pull from the dirt. We decided to form this company because we saw that big buyers didn't really listen to a single farmer standing alone. Now that we are together, we have a bit more of a voice. It’s a simple setup. We don’t have fancy desks or computers everywhere, mostly just ledgers and the experience we’ve gained over the years. Some of us focus on the planting, others look after the water, and we all try to help when it’s time to harvest. The village of Kursela is where our roots are. We deal with the usual stuff like rising costs of fertilizer and making sure the crops get to the market before they spoil. It is hard work and the sun gets really hot out here, but this is what we do. We are not trying to be some giant business; we just want to help the farmers in our neighborhood get a fair chance. If you walk through Tola Shahpurdharmi, you’ll find us talking about the next crop or how to fix a broken tractor. It is a community effort through and through, where everyone knows everyone else.
