In Kathua, farming is what most of us know best. We deal with everything from seeds to selling what we grow. Having an office in Patel Nagar gives us a place to gather and discuss things away from the mud of the fields. It’s a simple place with just the basics needed to run a business. We spent a lot of time getting this started because we realized that as individual farmers, we weren't getting very far. Now, as a collective, we can talk to people with a bit more weight behind us. The microwave tower is a good landmark, and it’s become a bit of a meeting spot for us. There’s nothing very fancy about what we do. It’s just honest work, getting our hands dirty and then coming back to the office to handle the paperwork. We have members from all over the ward and the surrounding areas. Everyone brings something different to the table, and we just try to make sure everyone gets a fair shake when it comes time to sell the harvest. It’s a lot of work, but it’s ours.
