Jamaath English Medium School

Our school is located in Padinhar, which is part of Udma in Kasaragod. It is called Jamaath English Medium School. We are right in the middle of a local neighborhood. You can hear the sounds of the village while you are sitting in the office. We teach in English, but everyone talks in the local language during the breaks. It is a mix of both. The building is a plain structure with several classrooms lined up. We have a small area out front where the school van parks. It is not a fancy place with a swimming pool or a huge track. We just have the basics. Most of the children come from the houses nearby. Their parents walk them to the gate every morning. We have a few cupboards full of old books and some maps on the walls. It feels like a real school, not a business. The staff here are mostly local people who have been around for years. We drink tea together in the afternoon and talk about the weather or the local news. Kasaragod gets very wet during the rainy season, so we spend a lot of time cleaning up mud from the floors. It is just part of the job. We don't try to be anything we are not. We just run the school and try to be helpful to the families here.
