Aravai Murungai Collective Farming Farmers Producer Company Limited is based out of door number 65 near the South Gate in Uppidamangalam. This part of the Karur district feels very connected to the land and the local crops. The office is not anything special to look at from the outside, just a regular door on a regular street. Inside the building, it is mostly just the staff sitting around a couple of tables. We spend a lot of our time talking to the members of the collective who stop by. Uppidamangalam is the kind of place where everyone knows everyone else, so we get a lot of people dropping by just to say hello or ask a quick question about their murungai. It is not like a big city office where you need a formal appointment for every little thing. We keep the books in the back and have a small area out front for meetings. The heat can be quite a lot in Karur, so the fans are always on the highest setting. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour or two in the afternoon, but we just keep working or sit outside in the shade for a bit until it comes back on. It is a slower pace of life here compared to the big cities, but we like it that way. There is usually a bit of dirt on the floor and the smell of the outdoors. We just want to make sure the farmers get what they need.
