Sakshi Provisional Store

Shastri Nagar is a busy part of Kanpur and our store at 338/5 is right in the middle of it. We are quite close to Central Park, so we get a lot of people stopping by after their morning walks or in the evening when the weather cools down a bit. The shop has been here for some time now. We stock the basic household supplies like grains, flour, and different oils. It can get quite hot in Kanpur during the summer, so we try to keep the drinks cold in the small fridge we have. The shelves are wooden and some of them are starting to sag a little under the weight of the heavier bags. We don't have a computer or anything fancy to keep track of things; it’s mostly just notebooks and remembering what people usually ask for. There are always some kids hanging around looking for candies or small toys near the front. The street outside is usually full of bikes and people walking by. It’s a lot of work keeping everything clean because of the dust from the road, but we do what we can. We just focus on keeping the bins full and making sure we don't run out of the essentials that the local families need every day. It’s just a normal neighborhood store where everyone knows each other’s names and what they usually buy. The walk from the park makes people thirsty so we sell a lot of water.
