Down here at 119/560 in Darshan Purwa, things start very early in the morning. If you come by Gumti No 5 when the sun is barely up, you’ll see us unloading crates and getting everything ready. Running Ravi Fruit Co. means dealing with a lot of different suppliers and making sure the produce is actually good enough to put out. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting heavy boxes and sorting through things so nothing goes to waste. The area around Gumti No 5 is always crowded, so there is constant noise and people pushing past, but we are used to that. We’ve been at this address for a long time now. Sometimes we have a good run of mangoes or oranges depending on what time of year it is. It’s not always easy because fruit can spoil fast if the weather gets too humid or dry. We spend most of our time just checking the stock and talking to the regulars who come by every week. It’s a simple business, really. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that, just our space here where we handle the daily arrivals. Most days we are just tired by the evening, but then we have to do it all over again the next day. It’s just the way life goes when you’re working with fresh food in a busy market spot like this one.
