Ramji Store

Ramji Store is another one of those shops in Generalganj on the Main Road of Kanpur. My father started this place and now I am the one sitting here every day. It is a very busy part of town and there is never a quiet moment. We deal in all sorts of general items that people might need in a hurry. You will find batteries, light bulbs, plastic buckets, and some basic groceries too. The shop is quite narrow so we have to use every inch of wall space for hanging things. Sometimes it feels a bit cramped when three or four people come in at once. Kanpur heat can be really bad in June, so the overhead fan just pushes warm air around, but we are used to it. I have a young boy who helps with fetching items from the back storage. Most of our customers are people who have been living in this area for decades. We know their names and what they usually buy. It’s not a corporate business, just a family-run store trying to make a living. We don’t bother with big sales or promotions, we just sell things at the normal price and try to be honest. The traffic on the Main Road is a headache sometimes, but it brings in the people. We just keep the doors open and wait for the next person to walk in. It is just simple work for simple people.
