Rahul Jarda Store

This shop is located at 106/384 on P. Road in Kanpur, not too far from the Punjab National Bank. We have been here a long time dealing in jarda and other related items. It is a small place, mostly just a counter and some shelves behind it where we keep the different brands and varieties. The air always smells a bit like tobacco and supari, which is expected for a jarda store. P. Road is a very crowded place, so there is constant honking and people rushing by outside. We see a lot of people who work in the nearby offices or the bank coming in for their daily fix. It is not the kind of store where you spend a lot of time browsing; you just ask for what you want and move on. We spend our time refilling the small jars and counting change for the customers. Dealing with cash all day gets your hands a bit dirty, but that is part of the job. Sometimes it gets so busy we barely have time to sit down and have a cup of tea. We do not have any fancy displays or anything like that. It is just a practical shop for people who know what they are looking for. The building itself is old, like most things in this part of Kanpur. We just keep doing our thing, day in and day out, watching the city go by from behind the counter.
