Fashion You

Fashion You is a small shop located at 12/23A in Gwal Toli. We are right opposite Lal Kuan, which is a very old and well-known part of Kanpur. The streets here are narrow and always full of people, cows, and rickshaws making a lot of noise. Our shop front is simple, with just the name and some window displays that we change every now and then when we have time. Inside, the space is packed with fabrics, needles, and a few sewing machines that run most of the day. It’s not a quiet place because there is always some machine humming or someone arguing about a specific measurement. We do a lot of custom work for local residents who want something specific made for them. The lighting is bright because we need to see the tiny stitches clearly. I’ve lived in this area my whole life, so opening a business here felt like the natural thing to do. We don't have a big marketing budget or a fancy website. Most of our work comes from people walking by or neighbors telling their cousins about us. Sometimes the shop gets a bit messy with scraps of colorful cloth on the floor, but that’s just how it goes when you’re busy. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep our energy up. It’s hard work, especially during the wedding season, but we just take it one day at a time.
