Dubey Kirana Merchant

Dubey Kirana Merchant is situated at Shop No. 14 D/8 in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar. We are in the Naubasta part of Kanpur, right near the Chaturvedi Building. The shop is a typical neighborhood kirana store where we stock bags of flour, pulses, and different kinds of spices. Kanpur can be quite dusty, so I spend a good portion of the morning cleaning the shop front and organizing the sacks. We have large open bins for some of the grains, and the smell of spices is always hanging in the air. The shop isn't very large, so we use every inch of wall space for shelving. I have a small desk where I keep my accounts and a couple of stools for when neighbors come in to sit and talk for a bit. It’s a local spot where people from Naubasta come for their monthly supplies. We don't have fancy packaging or bright lights. Most of our customers have been coming to us for years, so we know what they usually want before they even ask. Near the Chaturvedi Building, the street gets a bit narrow, so it can be a squeeze when delivery rickshaws come by. We just handle things the old-fashioned way. I write down orders on small slips of paper and pack them in brown bags. The ceiling fan wobbles a little when it’s on high, but it does the job. It’s just a plain, honest shop run by people who live in the same neighborhood as their customers.
