We are located at 105/130 in Chaman Ganj, right near the State Bank. It’s a very busy part of the city, so there is always the sound of horns and people talking right outside our door. The shop itself is filled with rolls of fabric and half-finished pieces hanging from the hooks. We have a couple of old stools where people sit while they wait for us to find the right thread color. The floor is usually covered in small scraps of cloth and bits of string by the end of the day. It’s hard to keep it perfectly clean when there is so much going on. We’ve been near the State Bank for a long time, so we’ve seen the buildings around us change quite a bit. Inside, it’s mostly just the hum of the machines and the heavy iron we use. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time to move everything out of the way to do it. Customers come in with all sorts of ideas, and we just try to figure out how to make the fabric work. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to sit by the open door to get some light from the street. It’s just the way it is in Chaman Ganj. We keep the shop open until late most nights because that’s when people are out doing their shopping and the street is full of life.
