Chadani General Store

Our shop is right there in Swaroop Nagar, pretty close to the Canara Bank. It’s easy to find if you’re walking around that part of Kanpur. We keep a bit of everything, mostly the things people realize they forgot at the last minute. It’s not a very large space, so boxes are often piled up near the entrance when new stock arrives. We try to keep things organized, but it can get a bit messy during the festival seasons. I’ve been working here for years and I know exactly where every small item is hidden on the shelves. Sometimes the lights flicker when the power is acting up, but we stay open as long as we can. It’s mostly locals who come in, maybe a few people who are just passing by the bank. We sell batteries, snacks, and basic household items. Nothing fancy. My son helps out in the evenings after his classes. We don’t really do any big advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here. If the weather is bad, we pull the shutter down halfway to keep the rain out, but someone is usually inside if you knock. It’s a busy little corner of the city. We just keep our heads down and serve whoever walks in. It’s a decent way to spend the day, talking to neighbors and making sure the jars are full for the morning rush.
