Rising Star School

We’ve been here at L-438 in Kalyanpur for a while now. It’s a busy part of Kanpur, as anyone living here knows. Every morning, the gates open and the kids start trickling in. Some come by rickshaw, others walk from just a few lanes over. The building isn't huge, but it's where we spend most of our day. We try to keep things organized, though with children around, it’s always a bit loud. The classrooms get quite bright in the afternoon sun. Teachers are usually busy with their registers or chasing someone down the hallway. It’s a normal school day, really. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. New shops opening up nearby and more traffic on the main road. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to manage with the fans off for a bit. We just focus on the lessons and making sure everyone is where they should be. It’s not fancy, just a place for learning. Most of us have been working here a long time, so we know the families around Kalyanpur pretty well. It feels like a small community inside these walls. We have our routines, like the morning assembly and the lunch break when everyone runs outside. It gets dusty, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We keep the books in the small library room and try to keep the desks from wobbling too much. We focus on the basics and keep things moving along day after day.
