Pee Kay Steel

We are located in Kunnummal, which is in Po Koodali, Kannur, Kerala. Our business is all about steel. We have a yard where we keep the rods and the sheets. It can be quite a messy place, especially when it rains, which happens a lot here in Kerala. We deal with local builders and people who are working on their houses. Our office is just a small room at the front of the yard. We have a scale for weighing the metal and a desk where we write out the bills by hand most of the time. It is a very hands-on job. We spend a lot of time outside in the yard, moving things around or checking the inventory. The staff here is mostly local guys from around Kannur. We don't have any formal uniforms or anything like that. We just wear what is comfortable for moving heavy steel. It’s a lot of hard work and the days can be long. We don't do any big advertising campaigns. People just know we are here in Koodali. We try to keep a good variety of steel in stock so people don't have to wait. Sometimes we have to wait for the trucks to arrive from the big cities. We just sit on the porch and have some tea while we wait. It is a steady business and we just keep at it, dealing with the metal and the mud.
