The Azhikkal Weavers Industrial Co-Operative Society Ltd is based right here in Azikkal. It’s a place where things are still done the old way in many respects. We aren't a big corporation with offices in ten different cities. We are just here in this one spot, doing the work that needs doing. The atmosphere is more like a community than a strict business. Everyone knows each other, and we all have our roles to play. The building isn't much to look at from the outside, but inside there is a lot of activity. It’s loud, it’s busy, and it can get quite warm during the summer months. We don't have a marketing department to write fancy brochures for us. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been here for a long time and people know our name. It’s a cooperative, so it’s about the people working together rather than one person at the top making all the calls. We have our share of disagreements and messy days, just like any other place where people work closely. But at the end of the day, we’re all focused on getting the products finished. We don't use big words to describe ourselves. We are just weavers and workers in Azikkal. It’s a simple life and a simple business, but it’s ours. We show up every morning and we stay until the work is done. That’s how we’ve always done it.
