Barsaguda Farmers Producer Companylimited is up in the hills of Kandhamal. We are based out of Chanchedi village, and you have to go via Raikia to get to us. The area is quite beautiful, but farming here is not as easy as it looks. The terrain is uneven and the weather can change pretty quickly. We are a group of local farmers who decided to pool our resources together. Most of our members are from the villages surrounding Chanchedi. We grow things that work well in the Kandhamal climate, like turmeric and other local crops. The office is just a simple place where we gather to talk about seeds and the upcoming harvests. We don't have much in the way of fancy equipment. It’s mostly just hard manual labor and a lot of patience. Being a producer company helps us when we need to sell what we’ve grown, since it’s harder to do that as an individual in such a remote area. We are just regular people who have lived in these hills for generations. We know the land and we know the struggles that come with it. There’s no big corporate vibe here, just a bunch of neighbors working on the same goal. If you ever find yourself in Raikia, you can find your way to our village. It’s a quiet place where people still value a hard day’s work.
