Our group is called Pipadi Farmers Producer Company Limited and you can find us at Plot No.Rf-3 in Jharighatimadaguda. This part of Kandhamal is where we all live and grow our crops. We aren't business experts or anything like that. We are just farmers who realized that if we don't work together, we are going to keep having the same problems. Life in Jharighatimadaguda is mostly about the land. We have our meetings at the plot, which is nothing more than a small building with a few chairs and some old ledgers. It gets quite dusty there during the dry season. We don't use fancy words or have any big marketing strategies. We just talk about things like where to get the best seeds and how to handle the transport to the city. Pipadi Farmers Producer Company Limited is a way for us to have a bit more say in what happens to our produce. Sometimes we disagree about things and the meetings go on much longer than they should. But that is how it is when everyone has a stake in the work. Kandhamal is a beautiful place but the farming life is tough. We deal with the bugs and the heat every single day. We are just trying to make it a bit easier for the next person who takes over the farm. There is no corporate polish here, just dirt under our fingernails and a hope that the next harvest will be a good one.
