Surobhi Agro

Surobhi Agro is located at 218, Ambethkar Street in Kanchipuram. It’s not a huge place, just a regular building on a busy street. We deal with agricultural supplies mostly. The shop is usually filled with bags of fertilizer or tools that the local farmers need for their work. Kanchipuram is known for many things, but the people who work the land are the ones we see the most. The floor is made of rough concrete and we have simple wooden shelves. We don't have air conditioning, so we keep the doors wide open to let the breeze in. Sometimes stray dogs wander in to sit in the shade, and we don't mind much. We spend our time talking to customers about the weather and how it’s affecting their crops this year. It’s a lot of listening and a bit of lugging heavy items around. My clothes usually have a bit of dirt on them by lunch, but that’s normal here. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is still written down in big ledgers. It works for us. We’ve been on Ambethkar Street for a good while and people know us as the place to get what they need without any fuss. We just show up, open the shutters, and see who comes by. It’s a steady life and we are happy to be part of this community.
