Sri Sairam Engineering

If you walk down Margo Street in Alandur, you will find us at No. 7. Sri Sairam Engineering has been a part of this street for a good number of years now. It’s a busy area with a lot of people moving back and forth. Inside our shop, it’s mostly just the smell of iron and the sound of hammers. We don't have any big signs or bright lights to get attention. Most of our work comes from neighbors or small businesses nearby who know we can handle a bit of machining. The space is a bit tight because we have several benches set up for different tasks. Sometimes the fans don't do much against the Chennai heat, but we are used to it by now. We spend our days measuring things and making sure the metal fits where it’s supposed to. It’s a lot of standing and leaning over benches, which can be hard on the back, but it is the work we know. We try to keep things simple. There’s a tea stall just a few doors down where we take our breaks. You won't find anything corporate about us; it’s just a dusty workshop where we try to be helpful to anyone who walks in with a broken piece of machinery. It’s a basic life, but working with metal gives a kind of satisfaction you don't get elsewhere.
