Gowri Casting

Gowri Casting is at No.27 in Thanduma Nagar. We’re located in the St. Thomas Mount area of Chennai. It’s a place where you can feel the heat from the casting work. The shop is mostly open-air or well-ventilated because of the furnaces. It’s a gritty job and we all get a bit dirty by the end of the shift. We don't have a fancy office. There’s a small corner with a table where we keep the records. Most of the space is taken up by the moulds and the metal. It’s been this way for a long time. We know the regulars who come by for work. The neighborhood is a mix of houses and shops. You can hear the sounds of the city around us. We don't use big words. We just melt the metal and pour it into shapes. It’s honest work. Sometimes the weather makes it tough, especially when it rains, but we keep going. We don't have a big team, just enough people to handle the lifting. It’s a simple operation at Thanduma Nagar. We focus on the daily output. That’s all there is to it. We show up, do the work, and close the gate. The dust from the sand and the metal is everywhere. You can't get away from it at Gowri Casting. We don't mind. It's part of the trade. Thanduma Nagar is a busy pocket in Chennai. We’ve been at No.27 long enough that neighbors know us. There’s no corporate ladder to climb. We just have the guys who do the casting and a couple of people managing orders. It’s basic and real. If someone wants to see what we do, they come and look at the floor. It’s a practical life.
