Lala Kahanchand Primary School

Our primary school is located right in the heart of Beltola here in Guwahati. It is a place specifically for the younger children who are just starting out with their education. Because we deal with small kids, the school is always full of a particular kind of energy. There is a lot of laughing and the occasional crying, as you might expect with children of that age. We have been in this spot for a long time and the building shows its age a little, but it is a sturdy place that has served us well. We keep the classrooms simple so the kids don't get too distracted. Most of the day is spent on the very basics—learning to read, write, and do simple sums. We also spend a lot of time just teaching them how to behave in a group. The staff is used to the chaos that comes with a primary school. We don't have any fancy equipment, just the usual chalkboards and books. The neighborhood of Beltola is busy, but we have our own little corner where the kids can feel safe. People around here know us as a place that has been around for generations. We don't put on any acts or try to sound like something we aren't. We are just a small primary school doing our best to get the neighborhood kids ready for the bigger schools they will go to later. It is simple work but it is important to us.
