Lakshmi School

Zoo Road is one of those places in Guwahati that never seems to sleep. There is always a horn honking or a rickshaw passing by. Lakshmi School is situated right in the middle of all that bustle. You can find us easily because we are right on the main stretch. The building itself is an older structure, sturdy and plain. We have high ceilings in the rooms which helps when the Assam heat gets really heavy in July. There isn't a lot of extra space for fancy gardens, but we make use of every corner we have. The kids play in the small courtyard during their breaks, and you can hear their laughter over the sound of the city traffic. Our desks are the heavy kind, built to last a long time. Every morning starts with the same routine of lining up and checking uniforms. The teachers have been here for years, some of them taught the parents of the kids who are here now. It’s that kind of place. We don't spend money on glossy brochures or big advertisements. Most people hear about us from their neighbors or the shopkeepers down the street. We just focus on the books and the lessons. When the day ends at three, the gate opens and everyone spills back out onto Zoo Road. It’s a bit chaotic, but it is our version of normal. We like it that way.
