Shri Krishna Marbles

Village Chika is where we spend our days. Shri Krishna Marbles is located right on the Main Road, near the DCB Bank. It’s a landmark everyone knows around here. The Guhla Road leads right into Kaithal, so we see a lot of traffic passing by. The yard is filled with marble slabs of all sizes. Most of them are covered in a fine layer of white dust. That dust gets everywhere—on our clothes, in our hair, and even inside the small office. We spend the mornings moving pieces around with the crane or by hand if they are small enough. It’s a lot of physical labor. When the sun is high, the marble can get quite hot to the touch. We usually take a break under the shade of the small roof we built. The bank next door is always busy, so there are always people coming and going. Sometimes they stop by just to look at the patterns in the stone. We don't have any big sales pitches. We just show them what is available in the yard today. The stock changes depending on what arrives on the trucks from the quarries. It is a simple life. We start early, work until the light fades, and then lock up for the night. The road stays noisy long after we leave. Most of our work is just moving heavy things from one side of the yard to the other and keeping track of the slabs.
