Shri Ganesh Dairy & Provision Store

Running a shop on Air Force Road in Jodhpur means you get used to the sound of planes and the desert heat pretty fast. Our place is in Borana Bhawan, and we have been here long enough that most of the neighbors know us by name. It is mostly a dairy and provision store, so the fridge is the most important thing we have. It runs all day and night to keep the milk, curd, and butter cold. In the summer, everyone comes in looking for cold water or a bottle of soda because it gets so hot outside. We stock a lot of basic groceries too, like lentils, spices, and sugar. The morning is the most hectic time because that is when the fresh milk comes in and all the housewives come out to get things for breakfast. The store is not very fancy. We have wooden counters and shelves that go up to the ceiling. Sometimes it is hard to find where we tucked away a specific brand of soap, but we usually figure it out. Being near the Air Force area, we see a lot of different people moving in and out of the city. We just try to keep enough stock so nobody has to go too far for their daily cooking needs. It is steady work, from opening the shutters in the morning to locking up late at night when the road finally gets quiet and the desert air cools down.
