The main thing customers look for here is cold drinks, especially when that Jodhpur sun is hitting hard in the summer. Refrigerators run all day and night to keep the bottles chilled. Besides the drinks, the shelves hold regular general store items like snacks, cigarettes, and household essentials. The shop itself is small with a plain stone floor. A couple of plastic crates usually sit outside when the new stock arrives. Traffic on Paota road never seems to stop, and people often pull over their scooters for a quick soda. It gets loud with all the engines, but you eventually stop noticing it. Prices are mostly standard, though we keep a small board for any changes. A dusty fan near the ceiling tries its best but doesn't do much for the heat. The day starts by cleaning the front step and checking the fridge temperatures. Running a shop like this is simple enough. There isn't a big team, just a few of us taking turns behind the counter. Guests from the nearby hotel occasionally wander in if they need something small. It’s a steady pace, and we’ve been part of this street for many years now. It gets especially busy during the weekends when more people are visiting the hotel nearby.
